Mary Ellen (Nygaard) Green

HOT SPRINGS - Mary Ellen Green, 72, Hot Springs, died Thursday, Sept 4, 2008, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Survivors include a son, Howard Green, Hot Springs, a daugter Brenda Hottell, Yakima, Wash.; four grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin Nygaard and Jim Nygaard, both of Hot Springs, Elmer Nygaard, Arvada, Colo., and Lawrence Nygaard of Kansas; and one sister, Phyllis Behrens, Davenport, Iowa.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, sept. 9, at McColley's Chapels of the Hills in Hot Springs with J. Edwin Coates officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Lois Wieman (Hagen)

LOIS ELAINE (WIEMAN) HAGEN , age 75, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Illinois, after surgery and a long illness related to pulmonary and kidney problems. A Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Savanna, Illinois with Reverend Philip Bigelow officiating. Interment will take place at Savanna Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 Third Street, Savanna, Illinois 61074 in Lois's memory.

Lois was born on January 20, 1933, in Verona, North Dakota, the daughter of Bernard and Lily (Aahl) Wieman. She confirmed her Christian faith at the Lutheran Church, Igloo, South Dakota. Lois married Ronald Duane Hagen on September 9, 1950 at the Lutheran Church in Igloo, South Dakota.

Lois was a long-time resident of Savanna and an active member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Savanna. Lois and her husband owned and operated Palisades Golf Course from 1961 to 1995. Lois was engaged in many crafts; sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, rosemaling, stained glass, tailoring, and doll making are only a few examples.

Lois is survived by her husband, Ronald Hagen; four children; Susan (Jeffrey) Clark, John (Marsha) Hagen, Connie Hagen (Bill Lamm), and Kathleen (Hal) Sutter. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren; James (Erin) Clark, Rachel and Christine Clark, Joshua (Oneida) Hagen, Morgan, Taylor, Sloane and Steffan Hagen, Andrew and Hannah Sutter, Andrea (Matt) Hess, Julie (Buddy) Burton, Steve (Kathy) Lamm, and seven great grandchildren; Mikayla, Rian, Connor, Rebekah, Isaac, Amy and Matthew, her sister-in-law, Marilyn Wieman and two nephews, James and Jonathan Wieman.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Lily and Bernard Wieman and her brother, James Wieman.

Laverne C. Richards

Memorial Services for Laverne C. Richards, age 79, of Umatilla, OR will be Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD with Mr. Charles McGaa and Mr. Michael Carlow Jr. officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD.

Laverne was born on July 30,1928 in Wanamaker, SD to Theodore and Zona Rocks Richards. He was a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Laverne was raised and attended school in Pine Ridge, SD. He served on the USS St. Paul in the United States Navy from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1947. He was a World War II Veteran.

He returned to South Dakota and married Lavonne Pourier on June 25, 1949 in Porcupine, SD. Laverne worked at he Black Hills Ordinance Army Depot in Igloo, SD, he also worked a the Sioux Army Depot in Sidney, NE and at a later date at the Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD. They moved to Hermiston, Oregon in 1968 and he went to work at the Umatilla Army Depot as a mechanic. He retired in 1973 but continued to keep busy working as a groundskeeper at the McNary Golf Course for a time.

Laverne enjoyed his children and grandchildren and loved going to their sporting events. He also enjoyed going woodcutting as a family outing. He enjoyed with pride, building and fixing things around his home and his family's homes. He was an avid rodeo fan. Laverne cherished his trips to South Dakota to visit his family and friends.

Spouse- Lavonne Richards of Umatilla, OR.

Sons- Laverne "Rick" Richards Jr. of Hermiston, OR; Kelly Richards of Richland, WA; Mark Richards of Highland, CA; Art Richards of Umatilla, OR; Anthony Richards of Tacoma, WA; Russell Richards of Portland, OR.

Daughters- Connie Richards of Pendleton, OR; Donna Richards of Battle Mountain, OR; Jackie Gohring of Rockaway Beach, OR; Karen McGowan of Portland, OR; Diane Ferguson of Hermiston, OR.

Brothers- Leroy "Show" Richards of Pine Ridge, SD; Ira Colhoff of AZ. Sisters: Ann Schreiner of Pine Ridge, SD; Ramona LaPointe of Rapid City, SD.

Uncles- Eugene Rocks and William Rocks both of Hot Springs, SD.

Grandchildren- 20 Great-Grandchildren- 13

Paul A. Scissons

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - Paul A. Scissons, 79, Newcastle, died Saturday, sept. 13, 2008, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Scissons, Newcastle; his daughter, Roxie Scissons, Carpenter, Wyo., and Patrick Scissons, Casper, Wyo.; five grandchildren; his brother, Jim Scissons, Gregory; and is sister, Vera Jonas, Rapid City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.

A memorial has been established to Weston County Library.

Alida Mae (Arpan) Chasing Hawk

HAVRE, Mont. - Alida Mae (Arpan) Chasing Hawk, 68, Havre, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.

Survivors include two daughters, Darla Red Bear, Rocky Boy, and Dawn Red Bear, Westerville, Ohio; one son, Damon Red Bear, Winner, S.D.; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Zane Arpan and Kenny Arpan.

Memorial services will be held June 6, 2009, in Eagle Butte, S.D., under the direction of Luce Memorial Chapel of Eagle Butte.

Howard R. Honadel

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. - A gathering of family and friends of Howard Honadel will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 12th at Newcastle Senior Services. The family suppests memorials to Treasured Memories Hospice or Weston County Health Services.

Howard Ralph Honadel, 86, of Newcastle died Tuesday, October 7th at Weston County Health Services.

He was born February 13, 1922 at West Point, Iowa to Arthur Phillip and Christianna Sophia (Klingler) Honadel The family moved to Edgemont, SD in 1924. He attended a rural school west of Edgemont through the eighth grade.

On January 29, 1944 he married Wyoma Alice Sturdivant. The couple lived in Provo, SD until 1948 when they moved to Newcastle, WY where Howard was employed by Black Hills Power and Light Company for 39 years.

He was a member of the Jaycee's, Odd Fellows, and Cambria Rams Rock Club and was an avid bowler for many years. He enjoyed rock hunting, making jewelry and was very proud of his vegetable and flower gardens. He enjoyed going to the senior center for cards, lunch, pool and good friends. Howard was a carpenter and built two homes in the Newcastle area for his family.

Survivors include his wife Wyoma of 64 years, three daughters, Nancy Bock of Gillette, Wyoming, Kathy Jones and husband Doug of Newcastle and Barbara Romero and husband Joe of Albuquerque, New Mexico, a twin brother Harold Honadel and friend Jo Spencer of Edgemont, SD, a sister Betty Scott of Loveland, CO, brother Richard Honadel and wife Iva Belle of Evanston, WY, brother Alfred Honadel and wife Dorothy of Spearfish, SD; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was prededed in death by his parents, a sister Alice Dahl, brother Glen Honadel, daughter Carol Smith, grandson Eric Good and Son-In-Law Darrel Bock.

Wiilliam J. 'Bill' Spence

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. -

Funeral services for William J. "Bill" Spence, 70, Newcastle, will be at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Norman Brotzman and the Rev. Eric Parker officiating.

Graveside services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.

Bill went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 28. He suffered an unexpected heart attack and was being treated at Rapid City (SD) Regional Hospital.

Bill was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Herrick, SD, to William and Marie Spence. The family later moved to Burke, SD, where he graduated from high school.

In 1962, Bill and his parents lived in Igloo, SD, where he worked at the Susquahanna Western Uranium Mine. This was the year Bill met the love of his life, Ruthie J. Zerbst. The coupe began their married life together on Nov. 7, 1964. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Newcastle, and have lived and raised their family there for 44 years.

Bill had an associate's degree from Dakota Wesleyan and attended Colorado School of Banking, affiliated with The University of Colorado. He also held an Insurance Brokers License and Real Estate Broker's License.

He honorably served in the National Guard.

He worked at many jobs.
