After 22 years of Federal service, with 19 at Black Hills Army Depot, retiring Jesse Sears receives a letter of appreciation from BHAD executive officer Major Robert F. Ehlen. Sears, an accomplished artist, was employed as a sign painter with the Post Engineer Division. His first Federal service was with the U. S. Remount Service at Fort Robinson, Crawford, Nebraska, breaking and training horses.
In the nineteen twenties he was a nationally recognized rodeo performer, appearing in rodeos in Nebraska, South Dakota, Idaho, Arizona, Oklahoma, Texas, California and Oregon. His specialty was bronc riding until he broke a leg at Napa, Idaho in 1928. He then took up the less hazardous occupation of roping and bull-dogging. He is a life member of the Tri-State Old-Time Cowboys Association. Mr. and Mrs. Sears will make their home in Edgemont.
