MacAdam Closes Out 30-year Military Career

Colonel Lloyd R. MacAdam, Commanding Officer of Black Hills Ordnance Depot since Sept. 11, 1957, has retired after 30-years military service. Prior to his tour of duty at BHOD, Col. MacAdam was Ordnance Officer of the 2nd U.S. Army with headquarters at Fort Meade, Maryland.

Deputy Commanding Officer Major Floyd M. Whipple, left, has assumed command at the Depot until the arrival of Col. MacAdam's replacement, Col. John R. Bailey, Jr., in February.

Under Col. MacAdam's command, Black Hills Ordnance Depot was awarded its only "superior" rating by the Inspector General in its entire 18-years of existence.

During the past three years the Col. has been responsible for many Depot improvements including: improvement of living quarters for military and civilian personnel; a new community library; and a television booster at no cost to the Government.

To establish cordial community relations, Col. MacAdam formed a Civilian Advisory Committee to discuss and to resolve mutual problems of the Depot and surrounding communities. Key personnel of the Depot and prominent citizens of Edgemont, Provo and Ardmore are members of the committee. Col. and Mrs. MacAdam will make their home, temporarily at Portland, Maine.
